I have 400+rwhp. No problems yet at 7k miles on the stock clutch, which is very easy to drive around the city. I thought I'd need to upgrade the clutch, as I had on my last two Mustangs, but the stock clutch is surprisingly good.

Hi Guys,
I'm joining the n"eed a clutch because of theextra powerfrom my SC"club this week. I have a Whipple HO (approx 450 RWHP)with about 4K miles on it. I do some spirited driving, but mostly just standard city stuff. Please dont try to tell me I'm not shifting right ... been driving manuals a long time ... NEVER replaced a clutch before.
Yesterday I dropped to second gear and punched it and the engine just reved up with the clutch out ...the car barely moved. Igot a gooddoseof that wonderful smell[:'(]. Later in the day I got some "chatter" letting the clutch out in second. I'm quite sure the clutch is shot.
So my question is the same as the first guy in this thread .... what is the best very streetable clutch for 450 - 500HP. Really hoping to keep the stock feel, sound, just get more life. I saw a couple recommendations for Zoom, Zoom Stage2, RAM on old Mustangs, avoid the Spec Stage 3+.
Any other first hand experience on the S197 with power adders for a clutch recommendation?
Thanx, erniep

Spec makes a Stage III+, which is a more "streetable" version of their Stage III. I would recommend this as I've heard good things about it.

I dont know much about the other stuff, but for exhaust, go to www.youtube.com
People have posted up plenty of vids of all kinds of exhausts on new stangs...

You mentioned exhaust. Here's the manual my fellow stang brethren.

ErnieP, yep I think your clutch is toast...
I've had the the KB on for about 14k miles now and drive crazy quite a bit, plus a few slipping launches at the track to keep the rubber planted. No signs of failure yet! I would keep the stock clutch on until it goes. It really won't screw up anything--unless it strands you on an out-of-town trip.

I'm also looking for a clutch.
I thought zooms clutches were wack? I see brenspeed has the Specstage II with flywheels for a good price. Anyone running the Stage II?

I have a question about the spec2 vs. spec2+ clutch as well. Which one for a daily driver (norm. aspirated, quickly driven, max. eventually about 360HP at the crank.)?
Sherwood, I thought the spec3 was a bit easier than the 3+. Can you set me straight? Thanks.
