i wouldnt feel too bad about it, their cars are just as expensive/more and are AWD, so they launch like a bat outa hell. then they realize they drive a 4 door subaru and reality sets in, their car may be faster but still not a mustang.

Still you gotta admit they are pretty awsome. I'm pondering with the idea of getting one as a daily driver this winter. It would be nice to still kick some *** in the snow.

You guys have it backwards....sti's, evo's, and wrx's are deadly cars from a dig if they are modded right and the driver knows what he is doing, but from a roll their extreme amount of drivetrain power loss holds em back. Those things can launch hard as **** and run 13 flats stock, but they are still trapping about what you guys are stock, so don't even sweat it from a roll stock vs stock...get some gears, intake/tuner and a good tune and you should be able to run next to him when he's stock.

I have a good friend who owns a STI. We go out and road race all the time! It is a blast. This is how it goes down most of the time:

If the STI is launched hard at around 3800 or 4000 rpm than that thing takes of like a bullit. No joke. The 4WD is amazing. The turbo will spool so fast and sit high on the rpms so I dont have a chance in hell to catch it. If both cars launch at a lower rpm like 2000 rpm than we basically play pikaboo because the stock gears on the stang are much longer than the STI, I catch up as soon as he changes gears, then I change gears and he pulls a little on me. Overall the STI will beat you nine times out of ten, but that thing weighs nothing and is using a turbo to create some sick power. The car is nothing without that turbo. It also costs a bit more than our stangs and is a lot uglier.

Overall you could put a CAI and one piece drive shaft on your stang for a grand and hang with the STI in my opinion.

I have driven the STI many times and it is probably one of the most fun cars I have ever driven. If you havent had the opportunity you should try driving one of those 4WD jap machines.

2 Entirely different cars built for different purposes. The mustang is a comfy cruiser with good straight line speed and ok cornering. The STI is a road going rally car deisnged for fast sprints to 60 and road holding abilities above all else.

Lets face it in the sti is a better car in the bends and the stang better in a straight line. Could you see a stang lasting long on a rally course and being competitive compared to an STI? Cause I Certainly dont just like I would not expect the impreza to be as good down the 1/4 mile.

Both very capable and very good cars. Doesnt matter where they come from and im speaking with no bias here as im British. Each has its own pros and cons. And saying its rice just because it Japanese just says your ignorant of what makes a good car. Its not where it comes from its how it performs at what it was designed to do.

That is just about the best, most logical comparsion of these two cars I have ever seen.

You think you have a problem now just wait until the 2008 STIs come out.

2006 WRX STI> 0 to 60 mph 5.1 sec, 1/4 time 13.8 sec (http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....;page_number=2)

2008 WRX STI> 0 to 60 mph 4.5 sec (est), 1/4 time 12.5 sec (est) (http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=5213)

But you can take the difference in the cost of an STI vs a Mustang GT and make the Mustang into a more of beast than it already is. Put a turbo on a Mustang and we will see which is faster.
