Default CAI dont work ?

i was reading on stangnet.com that cai really dont do anything even with the tuner, if any thing the tuner does the increase. is this true? WTFi thought this was a good mod to do.

More air = more fuel = more power.

They do work. Stock the GT has a small intake tube. Most CAI have a larger tube that pulls in moreair. More air with the CAI and More fuel via the tuner means more power. I have the TI CAI and can tell a big diffrence. I wont GO be going back to stock anytime soon.

A CAI alone will not do a whole lot in the way of higher HP....it does increase airflow but the computer isnt really tuned for the increased airflow....now when you get a tune for the cai, the engine now can take advantage of the increased airflow...does that help

^^^^ +1

a tuning device, will help the cars computer account
for the increased airflow into themanifold.

ok, well did any one read the link, some where sayin that just gettin a tuner is good enough and that the cai was just a waste, that it didnt help to much. i mean i will still get both, just this thread really confused me , i guess they just didnt know what they were sayin.

You will get some good gains with factory airbox and tune....just 7-10 less than with the cai/tune combo

CAI did very little for me. I was already running a tune, then I added a CAI with the canned CAI predator tune. It didnt help at all over the stock airbox and tune.

I then went through b@ma chips for a better tune for the CAI, and again it was nothing more than the stock airbox and tune.

Ever notice how big the stock intake tube is? It gets more than enough air that way....

Either way im keeping it!!!!

A CAI is bound to work well on these cars, have you ever seen that beehive looking restrictor in the stock intake tube?

Assuming near-laminar flow in the intake tube, the throttle body, the MAF sensorand the air filter should give the greatest restriction in the circuit. Unless someone has data to the contrary, I would say that a CAI that draws from the same area as the stock airbox (air temp the same?) would not show any advantage by itself...being negated by the velocity restriction on the throttle body assembly.
