Default Heat From Console?

this has been happeneing more and more as it gets warmer outside, just as it did last year. When my cars motor warms up, if my A/C is off it will spew hot air through my vents (top and bottom) as well as under the dash and console where the tranny tunnel is. Does everyones car do this or is this just something that i have to get used to?

I dynomatted the whole inside of my tunnel, and no heat, also helped w/noise from the drivetrain! then I stuffed the rest of the tunnel w/pillow stuffing. Wala all good. Sounds ghetto, but cant see a thing.

did you have to take out pretty much the whole console and radio/HVAC/ etc etc to get under the carpet? did it all go back together right? how long did it take you and how much did it cost for all that?

All vehicles are required to have a fresh flow of air, they are not allowed to be air tight, I believe the main reason is because of carbon monoxide that could possibly build up in the passenger compartment. Years ago they called it flow through ventillation. That could explain the air flow in through the vents. Having heat flowing through the console could well be another problem. A lot of people insulate the tunnel area to help prevent heat ingress around the shifter boot.

Have you ever been under the car? Ford mounted the damn cats so far up that you can cook a turkey in the center console compartment.

mines an auto, so no shifter boot heat. I also knew that cars weren't air tight, but damn someone must have hooked up the heater core to the fresh air flow system cause its generally hotter than the already boiling summer air. Terrible design
