You buy a set of exact replacement mirrors for about $45.00 each. That way you can sand down and paint the replacement set. If you don't like the look you can put the stock ones back on. Thats what I did. The mirros work and look just like the OEM. Besides, I didn't have any down time. When the paint was dry I swapped them out. Takes about 7 minutes and 14 seconds to swap out the mirrors.

Your right, White mirrors do look good on a White car.
Hears a thought. See what the GT would look like relocated into the stripe on the front fender. If yours is an Auto, maybe get a GTA from a old Fairlane.

There are two holes when you remove the GT emblem.

...old Fairlane.

With your yellow and tint yours is acually one ride that looks good the way it is. My problem would be the awful Ford Explorer black grainy plastic. I did mine right away and I have a black car; didn't want anyone to see my cheap mirrors. As far as the extra set of mirrors, well you don't need them to try the yellow for a while. Can get them anytime, won't be long and they will be an easy find in the yard for cheap. I haven't seen a GT yet that didn't look better with painted mirrors.I know I have a post out there (good year ago now, can limit search to my name) It describes the whole prep process and a few "cautions" on doing this.

My opinion: just do it, can go back to OE if you wanted. Not big bucks but big appearance upgrade.

btw, awesome look to your GT, way cool...

yellow, you could sand them get them painted yellow if you didn't like it just have them painted black again. then they would be smooth and could be waxed. going back to black would be easy and cheap since you wouldn't have to sand. either way your good looking car would look a little better.

I wanted them all white....looks better on white cars imo.
I would agree with you if the window trim had been painted to match to, otherwise I think the half colored mirrors look more aggressive.

Yeah, need to weld em in, prep for paint. ..no smal job really. Could by fender w/o hole but now you have to paint match the whole thing.

Cool, 55 swaping out the 292 with 428 4-speed. Mine is a 61 2dr sedan, 292 3 speed. Have added, T-10 4 speed, posi, 56 TBird 4v manifold with new 600cfm Edelbrock.CrownVic style dual exhausts. TBird aluminum valv covers, power antenna. Now doing body fab work, replacing fins with fins that stop at door edge; flush door handles from 95 Neon using OE fairlane lock set. All rear tailight areas seamless. Have CalCustom smooth bubble taillights for the 61Fords (NewInBox) ...freakin crazy find that was. ...coming along pass side done, working on driver side.

In my case I kinda need to keep the 292; bought the car from orig owner who was 83 year old woman, part owner of Ford Dealership; car was always kept inside for her and maintained by the dealership. 75k orig miles.

But I love my stang cause the GT is such a sweet ride. ...and I don't need to work on it. Time is always tough to find.
