Waste of money IMO. I would just use the Motorcraft (or Purolator - same thing) and change it often. If you like throwing away money I am accepting donations. Sometimes too many of us get too deep into the "bigger is better" mentality.

I plan on changing it every 5K miles no matter what filter i use. I dont think the oversized filter will costmore if your comparing the same type and manufacturer

Oil filters should be changed every 3000 miles. Even if your running 100% synthetic that last for 15000. The filter innards break down and just go to By pass after they start to break down. If you use synthetic and change your oil every 7000 you still should change a filter in the middle . That means when you buy 5 qts of that expencive stuff and a filter, you need one more qt and one more filter. But then some people like there filter to go to bypass , so, never mind.

I said you should change the filter because they go into bypass. There is no mileage for when this happens. If you don't want to do it. I say , GOOD. don't do it.
