Washing engine.
Ok so I only have 8000 miles on my car, but the engine bay is dirty and its making me angry! I have no idea how to clean an engine bay, only thing I figure would be to disconnect battery, drain power, spray away and wait for it to dry then connect it all again?

I caution against a pressure washer. It can put water where you don't want it. For a really dirty engine I like the Engine Brite Foam. Make sure to cover your fenders with a towel. Spray form on and wait. Then hose off with a garden hose.
My engine does not get too dirty so I've been fortunate to use an air hose or car soap and a paint brush. Then garden hose to rinse and air hose to blow dry.

To clean the engine use an All Purpose Cleaner diluted 4:1 for heavy dirt and grease or 10:1 for light cleaning. It works better if the engine is cool, spray the APC on the engine and let it sit for a few minutes. Take a brush and scrub the really bad areas to loosen up the dirt and grime. Now you can gently spray water on the engine to rinse everything off. There is no need to use a lot of water pressure, I never use a pressure washer on engines. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to dry everything off. Once everything is dry you can top with your favorite engine dressing.

RE: Washing engine.
I have a bunch of residue in the noocks and crannys of my engine compartment from when the bodyshop did the dry sanding on my car. I have been procrastinating because I wasnt sure how to get rid of it. Now that I read this thread I guess I gotta go clean it! Stupid dry sanding!
