Bad scratches! help
A stupid dog decided to jump on the side of my car last night at my girlfriend's house while I was backing out of the drivewayscratching my mustang in 2 places. When I got home I immediately cleaned the area and waxed. The wax removed most of the scratches, but there are still several minor scratches left that I need to somehow remove. I know there is something I can order/buy that will remove these scratches, but not sure what or where to get it from. You guys always give good advice. Please help!!!! Thanks! I will do whatever it takes to remove these horrible scratches!!!

Depending on how bad the scratches are, a Porter Cable DA type polisher and some compound will remove them. It's a little pricey that way, but if the scratches aren't too bad, you can probably buff them out using one of the 3 step products sold at any of the auto parts chains by hand. Just follow the instructions and good luck!

Guh, my dog jumped through my window when we were going on a walk with my previous car and left 4 HUGE scratches down the side of the door. I feel for ya man, good luck getting those scratches out.

The random orbit polisher is the best way to go assuming the scratch is only in the clear coat. Just make sure to use a VERY MILD compound. I use Griots Garage stuff and can't be more pleased with the results. I just fixed a scratch down my drivers side door and fender that was down to the primer so I feel your pain. Good Luck.

There is a difference between wax and polish. A polish does not leave any residue, it removes very small amounts of clear until the surface is level with the bottom of the scratch. This is only possible is the scratch is not into the color. The problem with the colored waxes (glazes) is that no one will offer a glaze color matched to your vehicle and they only last about a week or two depending on environmental conditions. I have a black car and you can tell the difference between where a glaze has been applied and where it has not.

you could get a very light "rubbing compound". THIS WILL REMOVE PAINT, so do not get too heavy a grit of compound. If the scratches are down to the primer (i.e. you can see the white) rubbing compound isn't going to do jack. If you could post a picture, that might help.
