I was racing a vette, which didn't turn out good, but anyway I was going 138 mph and still had alot more to go..... I was getting freaked out though and backed off. These roads aren't made for a car to go that fast.

Speedo reads 120MPH and the limiter stops at 115MPH
under power?? Is this incase you coast 5MPH faster when
you finally let off the gas at 115MPH?
Its probably because the brakes are so undersized on
the s197 stangs???

V-6's have T Speed Rated Tires (118 mph).

GT's have V Speed Rated Tires (149 mph)

My understanding is the 2005's GT's were supposed to be limited at149 mph. 2007 GT's are supposed to be limited at 140 mph. I have heard it was either a Driveshaft Critical Speed or Hood Issue. I dont know if either is true.

If you're doing that on the streets....
You should go kill yourself before you kill someone else.

When a person does 115 mph that person will be doing that where there is room. I've done only 100 on the streets, which is frankly slow as ***** compared to where I come from. I just never came across a place where I could put my foot down past 100. To much traffic. And I am not going for a midnight drive, with those cops lurking around here...

I can't figure out how the last number on the speedo seems to be regarded as the car's top speed by so many people. It's just a number, but it's amazing how many people say, "will it really go 140mph???"

Back in the Mustang II/Fox body days, I think I remember the speedos having a top number of 85. When Ford started putting bigger numbers on the speedometer, it was abig deal from a marketing standpoint, but it didn't change the things that make a car capable of going any faster.

When I was a stupid teenager, I used to bury the needle on a T-Bird with an 85mph speedo - no idea how fast I was really going, but it was faster than 85. I know I'll probably be flamed for saying so, but they should change the numbers on all cars so that anything above 80 or 85 says "Death Will Be Instant".

There are just too many variables when any of us hit triple digits on public roads or streets, and I try to keep my lead foot from getting too carried away on most days. As for the specific numbers, I suspect Ford set them for reasons that they wouldn't want everyone to know (like, driveshafts that aren't built very well, etc.).

I've had my GT at 135 mph one time. The engine had more power in reserve, but the tires and un-aerodynamic body didn't want any more. It was shaking and bouncing all over the place.

I deff dont do this on the streets. I live near chicago so i cant even get past 70mph without being in traffic. But at night on the highway there is always points where im pretty damn sure there are no cops and there isnt any cars so i use my big lead foot i have!!I love to speed (11 tickets, im 22) but I only do it when I know there are no cars in harm and I just to my comfort which yes it is waaay above the speed limit!!!With this all said I do need to get a GT soon, its just a matter of what my trade in value will be or what I can sell it for on the market
