Default Replacing Shift ****

I purchased a Hurst shift **** and thought switching it with the stock one on my 2007 GT would be as simple as unscrewing one and screwing on the new . . . While I could get it to turn, it appears that the entire shaft was unscrewing from the top of the transmission -- not simply the ****. Is there some trick to this or do I have to remove the entire shaft in order to unscrew the stock ****?I appreciate any insight and advice. Thank you.

You're removing the stock ****? Just keep turning, it will come out. If the shaft spins freely that means that it isn't mounted to the transmission anymore, and you wouldn't be able to shift. I when I took of mine it took longer (more turns) than I was expecting.

Your shift boot will not have anything to hold it up with as it attaches to the bottom grove on the original shift ****. I sloved this by using a washer which I slid down the shaft and secured it with a nut. Then I pulled the boot over the washer. I've since replaced the POS shifter with an awesome MGW...no more missing 3rd under hard accel.

No threads in the OEM shifter ****.
Only some springs of some sort that
kinda hold it on. And the locking
is done by threading the plasic inside
the top of the **** hole with the stick.
Shifter does not go into tranny. Climb
underneath and see that it is a linkage.

I made a custom Stainless Steel jam nut/shifter boot holder
to keep the boot up.

I tried this the other day witn no success. The boot came off with the ****[:@]. I couldn't figure out how the boot was attached to the **** and I didn't want to force it as I haven't seen any aftermarket boots yet (afraid I was gonna tear something). It seems to be attached by some kind of flat washer, don't know if its threaded or what! Can anubody tell me how that stupid thing is attached[:@]

Pop the boot down off of the ****, it's held up with a stiff rubber o ring, basically.
Then unscrew your ****.

PLstang, if you pry the shifting boot (from the bottom) off the console and lift the bootyou'll alsobe able to get a look at whats going on.
