Keep old 06 a/t or buy new 07 stick?
My car is in for the "suspension thunk," auto tranny makes hissing noise, and they scratched my door to a point where the door needs to be repainted. They're offering to give me trade in value of $22,000, which is $1000 less than what I paid (not including tax & lic) for my 9000 mile, 10 months old 06 GT auto, and in return, buying one of his new 07 GT 5 spd in stock for invoice - $1500 rebate. If I do it, I'll be able to choose black or white, the colors I wanted but wasn't available at the time I bought my 06; and, this will be stick, and with all the 07 upgrades. Good move or "what's the point" for blowing away 10 months of car payment, and restart a 60 month loan. What would you do?

$1K less than you paid? Not bad... Im assuming it will pay off any kind of loan you have left and give you some money down for the new car?
Please dont base this on "I want a stick". Cars arent THAT important, just have fun with what you have.
If this is about avoiding problems and getting a good deal/offer, then hell yeah I think it sounds pretty good....

I have 2 thoughts:
1) I prefer the manual tranny (I always have, this is just my preference for driving fun, no I don't want to start a which one performs better argument)
2) I have a 2007 and being the 3rd year of the model run, it doesn't seem to have a lot of the issues (thunk, leak, electrical, hesitation) that the some of the earlier s197's have.

Even if they fix it, it could still not turn out right...
Test drive the new one, if your not statisfied with the stick... stick with your old one
If it was me.... NEW GT BLACK WITH STICK WOOOOOOOO!

I'm not so sure about the "thunk" issue whether or not they can actually fix it. I drove the 07 and it didn't thunk and it was fun being a stick; I didn't buy a stick because the 06 clutch felt heavy and I don't wanna heavy clutch in the S.F. Bay Area traffic. BUT, the 07 seems much lighter as if 07 got hydraulic and 06 didn't, am I even right???
Lose my $1000 and & $2000+ in tax and license, then buy a brand new have a new start...tough decision.

You sound like a good brother to me, I have to agree with cars aren't that important, and I've been enjoying the car merely because it's a Mustang, I get compliments, it's got a good sounding V8, and it's comfy for me

if you think the 06 has a tight clutch you should drive my 68... we had a classic cruise last week and I drove around in it and pimped the ladies... OBV for about 5 hours, then I jump in my car to go party and the clutch felt like a feather, It was weird.... You're getting great resale for your car. I'd do it and start over knowing what you know now, you can make it better then before. You know?

I'm really tempted! So am I right on the hydraulic clutch for 07 or I felt it wrong?

Funny, I thought my '06's clutch was much lighter than my '05's. It's still pretty light IMO, maybe the '07's clutch has no hydraulic fluid? Yes, I'm kidding, we all take a hit when buying a new car, look at it in a long term basis, I'm sure you'll come to a conclusion best for you. I say go for the '07, a stick-shift car is for a true stick-shift person, I'd never consider an auto unless the deal was too good to pass up.
