Is this a good price for a S281 SC?

Hey, the 42k may not be a bad price. But you should go to a loan calculator and run the numbers. How many years is that for? 40k @ 6.00% for 6 years comes out to $660 a month. Better check the interest rate they put down.

Which leads me to the point of the questions. If you have the money to throw at a 42K saleen then a comparison of what it would take money wise to build a GT to that level of performance vs paying that price would be in order. Personally I can't see anything but the shelby holding or appreciating in value therefore dumping 42K into it would be as same as putting the money in a GT with mods IMO for the same end result a fast car that will depreciate in value. Yeah the saleen names gets you something but most people really don't care. I sat in a saleen at the dealer and the only things I liked were the seats and maybe the shifter(which felt notchy to me). Exterior styling is nice, the ride is HORRIBLE.
My vote is that car at $42K might be a worth while toy once you consider what you would spend to get a GT to that level of performance but no way in h e l l would I put $58K in a new mustang.

I had two deposits down for Shelbys, but got my money back due to the $10 mark-up.
Now I have a Mustang (Carmax 2005 $25k) with mods that run up my "investment" up to around $43k. It is probably worth $30-35k if I sold it. That's life...this is a car to drive, not collect dust for the BIG payoff.

That salesman must be the same guy that tried to sell me a (then) new '03 Mach 1 -- $500 a month LEASE for SEVEN YEARS with a $10,000 residual. I laughed in his face and bought a Hemi Ram instead.

$42k for a new supercharged Saleen S281 sounds almost too low to be true. I would make sure that it is not used (even if it just has a few hundred miles on it) and that it was not a base S281 (which generally go for around $40k) to which the dealer simply added a Saleen Supercharger.A normally aspirated S281 with just supercharger slapped on afterwards will sell for several thousand less than a factory supercharged S281.
I won't jump into the discussion as to whether any Saleen SC is worth $42k, $48k, etc. That's for you to decide yourself.
Post pics of whatever you decide to buy.

The numbers look acurate to me. Assuming you still owe on your current Mustang, it looks like they are giving you payoff. For the downpayment, they are sticking $1,000 in their pocket, and applying the other $1,000 to your loan. Today's new car interest rate for 60 months is 7.0% so the payment is correct. This does not include tax, title and tags, nor does it include gap insurance, which would drive the payment up to appox $865. I've seen used SC Saleens go for more than $42K.
