Default Zex question

So im really really leaning toward buying a Zex nitrous kit... but... a mustang friend of mine said that his buddy put one on his car and bought some 100 dollar spark plugs and he said that EVERYTIME the guy sprayed it just totally demolished the spark plugs, and he was going through tons of them... is that true? I wouldnt be using it very often and i wouldnt be boosting it that much.
What are my other options for good power at the track/street. I know 4.10 gears but i dont know if i really wanna lose 2 MPG, im a college student. I have plenty of extra money to drop on my car. i would say about +/- 500. Any other suggestions?

Your friend is doing something wrong.

What you will need is a colder plug, if you plan on going higher then a 75 shot. If your on a 75 and lower you dont need anything else.

1. OP definitely do the 4.10s! What a difference...

2. I thought that they had only come up with a spark plug for these cars one heat range colder, which some say still isn't cold enough for FI?

we run the zex kit on one of our 06 mustangs and put the colder plugs in and have ran up to the 125 shot with no problems and gained almost a full second with just a 75 shot

Your friend is doing something wrong or has his facts mixed up.

I don't have the paperwork in front of me but for a 75 shot you don't need to change the plugs at all. You go above that and you need to go to a colder plug. You also need to check them regularly.

If he's truly going through plugs everytime he sprays he may be running too lean and detinating. If your going to go over a 75 shot and you have a moded car the zex paperwork says you need to have a custom tune. I believe a big part of the custom tune is to insure your not running too lean with the colder plug. But then agian I'm not a tuner so thats just a guess.

Fouling plugs like that he is most likely running way too rich. A tune is a must when running nitrous, way too many things can go wrong and kill your engine.

But once to get it running nice and smooth.................... its SO much fun!

Most people's nitrous set up run between $1,500 and $2,500, mines at the $2,500 mark, so you may want to save a bit more money. Just the ZEX kit itself isnt enough.

+1 on that, the kit is bare bones and will not work well without a whole lot of extra parts to go with it. Then, ya gotta pay to fill that bottle all the time. It's just not as inexpensive as the manufacturers would lead you to believe.

Ive got two zex kits I bought used for 800.00 includingfive 10lbbottles(Im running a 125 shot now & my shortblock is being built to take a 350 shot hence the 2nd zex kit). You can find really good deals out there if you look!I bought my purge for 50.00.I installed it myself(the entire kit).I live in S.FLA & my 06GT is black so my bottles are always hot!But I carry a hand held torch for night races.I prefer not to have the electric opener due to I will be more tempted to use it all the time versus me having to get out to turn the bottle on in the trunk first.Usually when I go out to look for a victem I turn it on before I even start the car.But anyways,NO2 does'nt have to be expensive. If you buy new then yeah it gets costly.Just my 0.02 cents on it!

i have the zex kit on mine and ran it with no problems with stock plugs... if you go over 100 shot then you need colder plugs. I spent 350.00 on a used kit and I could not be happier. I love it and if you are careful about it, it is safe as an other mod.
