Default Oil Separator & FI

Hey guys,

If you're doubting the separator and are FI, might wanna think twice.

I was just doing the el-cheapo separator method and when I removed my inlet tube to the TB I found oil pooling at that connection. I'll post pics in a little while.

I'll have to check mine some day. I was talking on the phone to Jim Jr at JDM one day this summer and he told me that with the Saleens, the separator was a bad idea. He said the design is such that small amounts of oil is supposed to get in there to lubricate the rotors/screws, also increasing seal between the rotors and case.

I don't have a separator on my car, but so far no running or idleing issues.

ditto...3000 miles no issues...now I dont know how accurate JDM is with there explanation....however, I have heard no negatives on the saleen with the seperator,,,but then again...I have also heard of allot of people who also do not have the seperator and have no issues as well...

I'm with ya, guys. I've read both points in MF - that is, no problems with the oil separator and possible future problems without it but with no current problems found.

Someone else recently postedaboutseparators with multiple links (one link lead to another leading to another Web site, etc). Showing a FI'd internals after only a couple thousand miles. Looked pretty crappety. Somewhere deep into those threads someone wrote that the oil atomizes with the air and that it leads to gunking-up the intercooler and burned oil deposits on the valves & pistons.

The thread was pretty recent, I'll attach it's link here in a moment.

It's take ou to another thread then that will take you to another one. Good info along the way though.

I know that with my new kb they sent me a oil seperator to be installed with the kit, so I guess they have experienced issues and thought it was a good idea to put one in.

Hmmm. Hey, thanks for posting that. Any pics of that separator they sent you? Just curious what type they're using. Thanks.

Marty, that is typical with the Saleen blower. Ours does the same thing. I have not had time to design one for it yet...but soon. I do not believe the "help lubricate the rotors" deal at all. It is very true of oil soaking the intercooler. More important than that....oil in the combustion chamber= no good!

Thaaaaank you very much!!

I'm using the Steeda one. Anyone know if this type causes too much restriction for FI (kinda smallish and is filtered)? If not then I'll use this one until the pocket book starts feeling better [8D][:'(]

thanks for the reminder......imo, everyone with a s/c, should
put one between the cam cover and air intake.....
