Default Shifter problem

Hey all, this is somewhat of a technical issue so i'm going to describe it best I can and see if it rings any bells. To begin with, this problem was present before i got the steeda tri ax, so im already thinking transmission. Basically, the shift from first to sencond seems to be less smooth than it should be. For instance, when the engine is off, if i shift from first to second it will sometimes stick between the neutral and second gear throw. shifting from second to third never presents a problem in the same situation, but sometimes third to fouth does the same as first to second. The strange thing is, i never have this sticking occur while driving, BUT the shift from first to second can be a little rough if the clutch isnt real deep and im not pulling a quicker that daily driving shift.I would say half the time the throw is smooth and other halfnot. Is this normal for anyone else. Maybe im being paranoid???

Any help is much appreciated, im going to have my speed shop guy look at it when i get exhaust tuesdaybut your input would be great...

if its not sticking while driving, i wouldnt worry. sometimes gears stick when the car is off when you are shifting back and forth through all them, that's normal.

IMO, the shifter in these are just naturally a little sticky, clunky, notchy, whatever you want to call it. I'm hoping to get a MGW short-throw when I get the funds.

I have a similar problem, but mine occur while driving. Sometimes it is hard to get the car into first gear, it sticks like crazy. Reverse is a whole other problem. I typically have to gear into fourth, then slip it around to reverse in order to get it to go smoothly. I have always had this problem but it has gotten slowly worse. I would love any suggestions as to how to find those smooth shifts I should be having all the time.

Problems with shifting while the motor is running is something else and often a symptom of a dragging clutch.

So nobody thinks the tranny might be responsible... I figured it might be that i kncocked a tooth or twooff the gears... I guess itcould be the clutch sincethis is my first five speed. I havehad my shareof grinding gears so far...
