Shifting Pointers, Please!
Hey whats up you all! I was wondering if you all could offer some pointers on how to shift when racing/drag racing. Do you guys completely come off the gas to shift or do you all stay on the gas a bit? cuz I come off the gas completely, hit the clutch let go of the clutch quickly while getting on the gas just as quick... am I doing this wrong.. btw this is my first stick car... Thanks for all the help.

RE: Shifting Pointers, Please!
Power shifting is when you keep your foot nailed to the floor when you shift. Good if your fast with your shifts and for racing. Bad on the average everyday cars transmission.
Basically as quickly and as smoothly as possible change gear. You dont have to ram it into each gear.

Power shifting is a really good way to break something.
Get yourself as set of polyurethane engine mounts!!! They keep the engine / trans from moving too much under W.O.T. Basically what happens with the stock setup is that the shifter is attached to the body of the car and the engine / trans isn't. The factory engine mounts allow enough movement at W.O.T during a shift that the shifter tends to bind.
When I installed my long tube headers I also installed polyurethane engine mounts. This cleared up about 90% of my shifting issues. I later upgraded to the MGW shifter and it's a different car now.
But if you really want to improve shifting on a budget a set of polyurethane engine mounts will provide a significant improvement with the shifting.
