Braking problems
last night when I was driving around with my friend a bit "spirited." I went to brake and it felt like my brakes just wouldn't grab at all. it actually kind of worried me. if i was at that speed needing to stop quickly, it could have been very BAD. what would be the best way to go about this? Would new calipers be needed, or just a good set of brake pads? any help would be appreciated.
Like you could press the pedal but they wouldn't grab? Or you couldn't press the pedal?
I had it in my mothers escape where I went to stop at the stop sign at our street and the pedal wouldn't go down..
But I've felt the brakes not grabbing in my car when exiting the highway at 80 on a downgraded off-ramp, ended up downshifting to slow down most... Though my brakes work fine now..

If you were doing spirited driving, you probably got some brake fade. The bumpy slow down was more than likely the ABS doing it's job. You'd be amazed what some performance pads and stainless steel brake lines will do for you. Run you less than $300 and much improved braking. Beats the hell out of spending $1000+ on a big brake kit.

Go here www.ls1speed.com/catalog.cfm and under manufacturer, select Earl. The first ones listed are for our cars. Cheapest I've found. I don't even feel the ABS anymore unless I'm really on the brakes, like 40-0 mph. I'm using Hawk HPS pads right now, but Man they're dusty. I think I'm going with EBC Green or Red Stuff next time and see how those do. Stopping is like night and day compared to stock.
Also, brake cooling can increase fade resistance:
