I went to an all Ford show today sponsored by a Mustang Club. There were lots of S197's there ... V6, GT, Shelby GT, GT/CS and GT 500's .... there were dramatic differences in the amount of orange peel on all the cars ... From lots of peel on a Red GT500 to Smooth as Glass on a Black GT ... Not sure why there is no consistency in Fords painting process but it is evident that the quality of the paint jobs is all over the board ... if you got a good one you lucked out ... I can only guess that there is an allowable range in the paint reduction, air pressure, humidity and temperature in the paint booth to have such a range of orange peel amounts.

Performance white paint job is good, however, there is overspray inside the rear fender wells. It is on top of the black undercoating! Pretty shoddy!!!!!!!!!

My black is very smooth and only has a few minor imperfections. The one thing I notice is the white primer under the black paint and the ease with which this paint chips. I don't drive on dirt or gravel roads but I get chips and they stand out with the white primer underneath.

Mine is good, although it does seem like anything as small as a fly will knock a chip in it. Kind of thin if you ask me.

Fords paint-jobs are horendous! Even an unexpected drop of bird **** can chip the paint on an S197.

Well i dropped my mustang off today and while i was waiting for the loaner car i walked around the lot looking at some of the stangs thay had, Seemed the ones that were black and gray were as smooth as glass while the others, Redfire,Torch, blue and white had different stages of peel all over them, nothing too bad but its like you said, its all over the board. Hell even the Gt in the showroom had a little bit ...

BTW Are you the same dmhines from the Maverick board?
