RE: Who is satisfied with their factory paint job?
I went to an all Ford show today sponsored by a Mustang Club. There were lots of S197's there ... V6, GT, Shelby GT, GT/CS and GT 500's .... there were dramatic differences in the amount of orange peel on all the cars ... From lots of peel on a Red GT500 to Smooth as Glass on a Black GT ... Not sure why there is no consistency in Fords painting process but it is evident that the quality of the paint jobs is all over the board ... if you got a good one you lucked out ... I can only guess that there is an allowable range in the paint reduction, air pressure, humidity and temperature in the paint booth to have such a range of orange peel amounts.

My black is very smooth and only has a few minor imperfections. The one thing I notice is the white primer under the black paint and the ease with which this paint chips. I don't drive on dirt or gravel roads but I get chips and they stand out with the white primer underneath.
