how to remove shift knob?
I'm sure if you twist hard enough in the counter clock wise direction the handle will loosen up and you can remove it. The shifter boot will want to twist with the **** if you don't hold it in place or roll it down away from the ****.
See Tacobill's howto guide to install MGW short throw shifter.

Pull up and twist counterclockwise.
Twist until you cant twist no more.
After practicing, go out to the stang
and pull and twist there.
On second thought, are you mechanically
inclined? Maybe you should take it to the
stealership for assistance.

When I attempted to do the same thing, the entire shaft began to unscrew from the transmission itself. From other posts I've seen, this appears to have happened in other cases. I also understand that since the boot attaches to the stock ****, it may be necessary to"jury-rig" something to hold the boot.
You gots a funky shifter.
Its not attached to the transmission
but hooked to a linkage to the tranny.
If yours is a spinnin, you have problems.
You can jerry rig a boot holder but
you will not like it.
