also, all the other speakers have a lot of options for replacement. if you replace all the speakers get an 8 channel amp for the 8 speakers, make sure it's a good amp. i dunno if it can be hooked up to the factory head unit, someone else answer this. that'd be great tho. i wanna hook up to the HU. i dont think the stock speakers need replacing if you just wanna add some bass with those 8's tho.

....there are only 4 speakers and 2 subs with the 500 and 4 subs with the 1000....and yes all 4 stock 5x7/6x8 should be replaced if you get a new HU....they have a 25w stamp on the back....peak power i believe

WHAT?!?!?! An 8 channel amp? You don't need that, I don't think it even exist.

For those who want to put component speakers where the fron 5x7 speakers are, you can use this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Metra-82-5601-Fo...QQcmdZViewItem

You will need to dremel off the 'lip' for the 5x7 speaker so that the 6x8 adapter will screw on. Took a little time to get it all sorted out, but it's a great solution for a component option.

Infinity Reference 6812's. $100 or less/pair. Replace all 4 please, you'll be glad you did. If you get them from Crutchfield, they'll send you the adapers and the door and rear panel removal diagrams. Real easy mod, and will improve the sound greatly. They are very efficient and will play loud with the stock HU. They have ALOT of treble, but excellentclearvocals.

I was just digging through my old car audio stuff and ran across my old Polk Momo MM6 6 3/4" Component Set. Would the midbass driver in this set be enough to replace the stock 8's in the doors or do you guys think I'd be lose some bass? I'd power them with a 2x150 (rms) amp.

Link to the old component set.

I would recommend replacing the 4 main speakers and the HU. It can be done pretty cheap and it will balance better....just replacing the HU might be too much power for the paper speakers to really get the benefit so replacing the speaker will fix that.

There are plenty of good speakers and plenty good subs that fit in the door. At my stereo shop, we work on 2-3 S197s a week. If you can't do it all at once, replace the door speakers with a decent name brand that is a low wattage/high sensitivity speaker (ie: memphis PR57 or boston SX) Roll with that until you can get a new radio. Then, do door subs and an amp. Lastly do an amp for the door speakers. Many speakers will sound good if setup right. What do you feel that you are missing from your stereo system? Clarity? volume? bass? Thats what you need to figure out before just going to buy speakers, and buy them based on your needs (not what other people like)
