Default Buying used

Hi all,

Does anyone have advice on what to check/look for when buying a used 05-06 GT and what kind of price range I should be in? I saw an 05 GT Premium auto with 24000 miles on it going for $20995....Is that about right or a little too much?

Thanks

The safest thing to do is find a GT with “0” mods or repaired body damage. Detailed service records that show good maintenance procedures are a must as well.

The price doesn't seem high. It may be a little low actually, based on edmunds and kbb. I've seen them go for about 24-25 at dealerships recently, and 22-23 private. I paid 25.5 for mine a couple months ago, but it's a vert and had less miles. But yea, +1 on the "no mods" rule, and no body work. There are lots of good late models out there.

I bought a used 06 with 6700 miles on it and paid 30,000 out the door and its loaded eibach suspension,20in rims, painted black stripe all thru the middle, and painted screaming yellow mirrors. So thats not a good deal for a car with 24,000 miles and plus I got the Shaker 1000 to boot

I would if I could. I don't think I can get a stripped GT Deluxe/auto for less than 24k. If I could get that much for my trade, I'd do it in a heartbeat!

I recently got my '07 GT deluxe new for $22.5k ($24.6k out the door) from Ken Grody in Buena Park,CA. It was an ad car, so keep our eye on the ads; you might be able to swing a good deal (I could have gotten it for even $750 less with the Ford loyalty bonus, but I've never owned a Ford before). Pretty much the only extra features it has are 3.55 gears and the shaker 500. But my only requirement was the 3.55 gears anyway, so it was exactly what I wanted!

But to answer your original question, see if you can get one with minimal drivetrain/transmission clunk. Mine has a noticeable clunk when shifting, but from what I've heard it is somewhat normal. But you may have to worry less about that if you are getting an auto. Btw, I would recommend a manual... much more fun imo!

Go to KBB.com and input the information. I've noticed that some regions are more expensive than others. I was in New Jersey last year and the cars seemed more expensive there then in Florida.

1. Smell the passenger side carpet, some have had issues with water leaking in that area. Seems like a seam or two were not properly sealed during manufacturing.
2. Take a test drive down a bumpy, uneven road. Some have a front end thunking noise caused by a Strut bearing/bracket as it's refered to now.
3. Get a CarFax report to make sure there was no accidents with this car.
4. Look it over real good in the daylight hours, some things are difficult to see at night.
5. Look at the treadwaer of the tires and depth of tread, make the dealer put on fresh rubber if you're going to have to buy tires in the near future.

I think the price you're looking at is fair, good luck and hopfully you'll stop back by and let us know you bought it.
