Just wondering if valve chatter is normal when the car has been sitting out all day and then leave from work. I have noticed when I leave work in the evenings and haven't driven the car it has some chatter at 4000 RPMs. After that it goes away... Almost like the oil system is fully pressurized...

Anyone have the same things happen to them ... ?

Thanks,
Ray

Thanks!

I hope you're not taking your engine to 4000 rpm before it's fully warmed up!! If you are there is bound to be some noise as your oil is still cold and may not be circulating as well as it does when it's warm. Take it easy until it's at full operating temperature.

+1. Try to keep your shift points under 2500 RPMs for the first minute or two of driving.

Wait for the car RPMS to come down on there own before taking off too after you first start the car when it has been sitting for a while.

You guys are so right. And where I live, when I pull out into traffic in the morning theres ALWAYS cars coming, and coming fast, so I always have to play a little puzzle game of 'slam on it even though the engine is cold but dont go over 2500 rpms'. I think its actually what wakes me up before work.

What weight of oil are you using and how long do you let the car sit after you've started it?
