Car Covers
Will someone recommend me a car cover for my 2005 Gt. I work as a police officer at different shipping terminals and the dust and dirt from trucks are freaking horrible. I've heard that a cover will hurt the paint job but the dirt and paint chips are killing me.
Any help I would greatly appreciate it. My car is black.

RE: Car Covers
Car covers should only be put on a clean car. If there is dirt already on the surface the movement of the cover will cause scratching in the clear coat. So if you want to wash the car before putting the cover on every time go ahead. If not just make sure you give your ride a good washing when you return from your job and the paint should hold up just fine. A good coat of wax will also protect the paint from the elements.

RE: Car Covers
I've been covering my old car for 25 years. Dirty or not. I'd rather have a cover on it than have the sun on it. I do not believe that I have hurt the finish, the car is old now, and on the original paint. I ordered the thinner/lighter cover from Ford. Turned out to be the more expensive. I cover my car when I go to work (been out of work for two years) pretty much five for five days. I cove the car when I'm out of town and car is not in garage. Did have one stolen at the "fancy high price MGM in Reno".
I would recomend that you don't drag the cover over the paint. I don't "fold" my cover, I "flop" my cover in a couple of loose folds from front and back to meet on the roof. Then I "flop" the two dangles up over the roof, then I put in trunk, keeping alignment as it was so I can pull it out of the trunk and put it on the roof again. Probably takes like 45 seconds to put on, or to take off. So I don't drag it around on the paint, and, when you are putting on the roof, any weight involved is already spread out over a couple of square feet.
