Default Has anyone installed a new steering wheel?

I'm planning on installing a FRPP steering wheel just like the ShelbyGT500 wheelbut with black stitching instead of red on the leather.

However, the instructions for REPOWERING the airbag system seem a little strange They want you to turn the key to ON and then replace a fuse and then reconnect the ground battery terminal. It seems likely to have circuit spikes in this manner with the key ON.

Has anyone messed with their drivers airbag and what procedure did you follow?

I just installed a red stichted wheel on one of our customers cars. I really never depower the air bags. Just disconnect the negative battery cable and hold the brake for 30 seconds after. I have never had a problem this way.

Why did you hold the brake for 30 seconds?

Just something I've always done to make sure everything is depowered. I have OCD with this kind of stuff.

Oh I get, you use the brake bulbs to drain the remaining charge. Makes sense!

You can get the SVT wheel from partscheap for just under 400. I would consider an upgrade to a different wheel but not for these prices!

After you finished, did you have any codes to clear? I'm planning on doing this myself and don't have a diagnostic tool to read and clear codes yet (that's next on the list).
