Overheating
Any of you guys mentioned the cooling fans. Are they working for sure? Also, check the oil and see if you got water in it (it will look like mayo). You might have cooked the head gaskets.
Try another dealer too...

Hello.
I would get a lawyer and file a Lemon Law case. That simple, you meet the qualifications already.
An 07 should be having these issues, I fear there is something wrong with the car more than they are tell you...the dealer likes to cover their own butt.
Take it to a 3rd party and get it looked at, a neutral 3rd party.

Day 4:
I just picked up the car and they didn't change a thing. Well they ran it out of gas and put an extra 100 miles on it. But they said they couldn't get it to overheat again and until it starts acting up again there is nothing they can do. They also tried to write up the paper to say that they couldn't verify the overheating problem and I wouldn't sign it until the changed it to say that they saw the problem, just that they couldn't fix it. So I took the advice about the lawyer and he stated that I do have a lemon law case and I am working to fax him over the paperwork. I have the car now and it ran fine from the dealership to work..which is about a mile, but the ride home could be interesting.
I love this car, but I can't wait for a fix or a replacement.
Keeping this updated for my records.

Wow - it sure sounds like a head gasket to me. The failsafe is mode does exist - but it certainly won't stop you from warping a head gasket. A problematic head gasket will lead to more serious issues if not fixed. A warped head gasket will also run fine once cooled down for a bit but the car will continiue to overheat as it warms up.
If your car is overheating, it is perfectly normal for you to get overflow out of your cap. The water heats up and expands. Has nothing to do with determining where the problem is. I don't have your car in front of me to be sure but the sypmtoms would have me checking the head gaskets first and foremost. Did the dealer even check them?
Checking the fans is a great idea. Takes one tiny fuse going to knock them out. A good test is to wire them to be on all the time and just turn the key on. You know instantly if they are working or not.
Good luck and hope everything works out but I wouldn't take it to that dealership again no matter what.

They put an ish load of miles on it, run it out of gas and give it back to you without chaning anything. wow! did u ask them to pay you for the gas they WASTED? Also, lemon case sounds like a good idea. just to make sure you win you can do what people that i know have done multiple times. head to the dealership, disconnect the coolant temperature sensor around the corner somewhere, turn on the engine, make sure the check engine lines comes on and drive straight into the repair shop after connecting it back. not a lemon yet, that's correct. they will replace the sensor for you and you'll get your car back. to make it a lemon repeat the procedure 3-4 times.
don't get caught, because that will get u in trouble

Hello, this is the INTERNET - accessible to the world. You do have a PM function, you know? Telling someone to do anything illegal in a public forum is about the stupidest thing you can do next to the person who takes the advice...

Tim - the dealership obviously has their head up their **** no matter what the problem turns out to be. You are on the right track with the lemon law. The best advice I saw was to also consider taking the car to an independent shop for examination. You don't need them to work on the car, just diagnose and document the problem in their opinion. This will be all you need on top of your current service records and experience with the dealership to get some action taken.
Good luck

Tim, fordfanboy is dead right. You are done with that dealer, period. They are the reason why it's such a mess now.
It was a simple thing to begin with (and still is) and now your motor may be hurt. If the head gaskets are shot, then your aluminun heads will need surfacing and on and on. Pull the dipstick and see for sure that the oil is brown/black (brown's better). If you see any tracesof yellow, tan or anything light in color: park the car! now!
People are looking out for you...

That is probably the dumbest advice I have ever seen given on the internet.[:@]

The guys always trying to 'get over' is why certain aspects of american life are now screwed, i.e. lawyers, all insurance, etc. etc.
Do you ever stop to think what picture is painted of your character when your first thought of advice is, 'this is how you can cheat...'? A man without good character is the same as a man without a dick IMO. Your character and your word are the two things you should hold sacred IMO.
I'm not saying you have bad character - I don't know you. I'm simply suggesting you think about how you will be percieved with comments like that, ya know?
Ok have the dealership check the cooling system for Hydrocarbons. You can have a blown head gasket and have no signs of oil in the water or water in the oil. Also when is the car overheating. Freeway or in town. There should be sufficient air flow at highway speeds to not even need the fans to come on. So if it is overheating in town then they need to check the fans operation. These cars do have a fail safe cooling system but I am not sure it can prevent a head gasket popping if you simply keep driving it while it is overheating. If you got it hot enough to shut itself down then you may very well have popped the head gasket. If they find Hydrocarbons in the cooling system then you know for certain the head gasket has popped.
It is also possible that the impeller on the water pump has separated from the shaft and the only way they can find that would be to physically remove the water pump and inspect it. You need to give more details on a overheat issue other than just saying it overheats.
