IMO, go get a motorcraft filter from Ford. Retail is around $14-15. I'm sure they are of much better quality than Fram or the like.

Ford charged me $20 for mine[:@]. Autozone wanted $8, but they didn't have it in stock. I changed mine at 13k and the car idles smoother. At first i thought I was imagining it, but it's definately smoother.

Be sure to depressurize the fuel system by pulling the fuel pump relay and cranking the car for 5 seconds. Don't get the gas on you, it will burn your skin. Gas will still come out when you remove it. Also if you live in a dusty area or drive on a dirt road occasionally, be sure to wash the filter off with a hose before removing it. You don't want dirt getting up in the lines past the quick connect fittings when you put the new filter on.

My Scheduled Maintenence Guide doesn't show a fuel filter change until 30,000. Am I the only one?

There's a thread in the 4.0 forum with instructions and possibly a picture...didn't read through it.

Nope that is what mine says also. I changed at 24.5 k and it was too long. Since changing I picked up 1 mpg. I used a puralator from Advanced auto(?).4 bucks or so. Easy to change. Only need 10mm socket I think. Filter connected to lines by 2 green conectors that you push to disconnect. No additional tools needed. The filter WILL have fuel in it still so have a large rag there to catch it (maybe 2 ounces or so). I will change every 12K-15K now. Dealership wanted 22 bucks for motocraft filter. Puralator says it meets or exceeds OEM specs for filter. Filter is located under driver's side covered by black shroud of plastic
