Buy a new filter lest you over oil yours after cleaning.
MAF sensors are expensive and sensitive to oil.
Oil gets on the MAF if you over-oil your old filter.
New ones come pre-oiled with the proper amount
of oil on them. New filterslast 50K miles or so.
Put pantyhose over the new filter and check/change
it regularly to keep the big stuff off your filter.
Looks gay, but if its a daily driver and not a show
vehicle, who cares.

Sorry, I didnt see Tubes post above.
Just go get a cleaner kit from the auto-parts store.
Then to the dealership for a new MAF sensor.[:@]

Buy a new filter and treat it with respect. Time is money.

Okay so buy a new filter.

Then I should have no problem with the MAF sensor

My current filter only has about 500-600 miles on it. Is that bad?

500-600 miles is nothing. my filter has over 10K miles on it, tho it is in need of a cleaning.

You runnin shine down dirt roads 24/7
behind a line of cars kickin up dust?
Filters filter better when they are slightly dirty.
You need to get a BBK filter for the BBK intake.
At this rate, buy a case of filters if they only last
you 500-600 miles. Nothing is wrong with your
filter but a change in color and some crap on it.
A foam pre-filter is what you need. It is like a
pre-filter for crap for your smaller particulate
BBK cone filter.
