4:10 gear benefits???
How do you guys like the 4:10's. My local shop said they could do the install and everything for $400. Is doing the gear swap really worth it, whats everyones oppinion on them that have had it done.
DO IT You won't regret it for a millisecond!
...buthowarmat's right, unless that's a "friend" price, I'd be suspicious. You get what you pay for (and you might be getting a substandard or USED part at that price)

worth it by far!! 4.10:1 ftw!!
make sure to get it done at a good place, or you will have headaches for the rest of your cars life [:@]
side note, my new mechanic told me to bring the car back and he will fix whatever the problem is =)

FFRP or Motive or who the fork knows?
I have read way too many "my rear end is
whining anfter my 4.10 install" posts to just
want to get a 4.10 take-off rear end already
set up from the factory. 4.10s rule but the headaches
associated with cheap sloppy dont know what
we are doing installs makes me leary of that $400
quoted price. Will this guy work with you till
times end until the whining goes away? If not,
go somewhere else that only does rear ends.
Im not sure what brand gear he plans to use, but he said that included everything, the install is from Alternative Auto, they say they would be there for me if I had any problems.
For a 4.10 install, 325-350 is a good baseline ballpark for labor. Including gears (I used FRPP ) and fluids and 'stuff' the total should be about 525 to 625 as mentioned above. Go for the mechanic who is good, don't worry about trying to save 100 to 200 bucks. I think a gear swap is definitely worth it if you are normally aspirated. The engine is revved up waiting for your next command instead of you having to wait for it to 'spool up.' The 4.10 ratio is fine for a daily driver. Mpg is fine. The top end argument against getting a 4.10 makes no sense to me unless you are dealing with a very specialized racing application. With 4.10s, you will go way past 100 mph and pull strongly while doing so. The 4.10 (with the stock 5-speed) really feels like it belongs on the Mustang GT.
