RE: 4:10 gear benefits???
Depending on your area you should be able to find someone who specialises in rear gears. I went to an old friend of the family who used to have a small race team that ran one dirt track car and one asphalt car. He gave me all kinds of hook ups. And I found a lot of good ol boys who had been racing their entire lives and knew how to build cars on shoe string budgets and make them last. The rear end guy I talked to was very popular and makes setting a gear set an art. He said he`s installed more Motive gears in the past five years than all other gear brands combined. He loves them. He uses them in his own car which is a mountain motor Camaro that is super stout. He says he can break them, but he has to do it on purpose. He told me that Motive does a good lap job from their factory and they should give no gear noise if properly installed. I watched him do a 9" install and he had two digital gauges to set the backlash. But didn`t stop there because he wanted to see the wear pattern with compound. He uses the gauges to get the right backlash and then used the compound to see how the gear set liked the backlash. He said the gear set had to be happy in order to last a long time.
