MORON!
Thankfully you were not hurt and neither was the car. I however would suggest you call or go in to that shop and have a talk with the Service Manager or Owner which ever the case may be and let him know what happen. This is something they may do to someone wife and kids car and it could be disastrous.
You know what is even more puzzling is that when ever i do brake regardless I always spray every thing down thoroughly with Brakleen after Assembly to clean and residual greasy finger prints or anything else that may have mistakenly gotten on the pads or rotors.

My daughter took her 2000 Ford Taurus to Firestone when I notice oil over her driveway. Double checked and the Firestone shoponly lightly hand tightenedthe oil filter, I could move it with just on finger, she lost almost a quart just driving home. From now on I will spend the 5 minutes and charge her oil from now on.
That's what happens when you hire morons off the street to help you with your business! The owner needs to know about that, it's too grave. If the guy is honest, he would give you your money back regardless and fired the douche bag with a 12 gauge.
I'm a shop owner and I would never forgive myself for that kind of screw up, law suit or not.

Well, I just spoke to the mechanic outside. The conversation went like this.
"You know that black, lube stuff that comes with the pads?"
" Yeah"
"What do you do with that stuff?"
"You're supposed to put it on the soutside of the pads to stop squeal, but your pads already had a an anti-squeal backing on them, so I didn't use it."
"Oh, so you didn't use it at all?"
"No"
"Ok, thanks"
So I don't know what was on the rotors, grease from his hands maybe? So, I'l take back the MORON comment for now until I fgure this out.

I wouldn't. He left something on there, and your braking was substantially less until you cleaned it off. He should have used brake Kleen after he was done. He could have had a brain fart and used the stuff like you thought, then after the car was gone, in the middle of the night, he remembers he did it and he was ready for your questions. I'd say MORON fits.
