Default MGW over Hurst shifter

About a month ago I bought & installed a Hurst short throw shifter in place of the stock job (5-speed) The short throw is great but the way it shifts is like someone said "like shifting threw gravel" I've already missed 2nd to 3rd several times & dont much care for the way I have to "man handle" going threw the gears. Yes I torqed everything down to spec & lubed the plastic bushing in the shift lever. Now (as usual for me) I found the MGW shifter which looks like a better shifter with a few more adj. & in there video the guy shifts with 2 fingers. Anybody have 1 of these MGW shifters?? Like an input please. I can always unload the Hurst on e-bay

sounds like you dont have the hurst installed correctly. Make sure you have the offset going the right direction. I dont know of many if any that are missing 3rd with the hurst

I used the hurst for about 6 months and switched to MGW last week. The hurst was ok, but really notchy and hard to engage at times. The MGW is much better. Still not as nice as the tri-ax in my '01 cobra, but shifts are way easier and the 3rd gear pre-load helps a lot

Here's the thing. You will find many MGW owners here, just like you will find many Hurst owners here. What you will get mostly is personal preference. There are not many users that have had both. They are much different shifters, from what I have read. I have an MGW, and the only thing I can compare to is stock, and stock plus the Saleen Short Shift Block. No comparison. I love the MGW. I would suggest you check Matt's suggestion as to your installation, and assure it is correct. Do a search on MGW shifter. You will find many write ups, including my install, as well as Taco Bill's install. Great information.....

Good luck with it,
Mike

+1. Try to find someone local with the MGW and see if they'll let you row the gears a few times to see how it feels before investing the time and money.

Very happy with the MGW. Quality is first rate. Little more noise than OEM. If possibleuse a lift for installation......

Very happy with my hurst... has loosened up quite a bit since I bought it, and shifts like butter. I love it.

Without actually using the MGW, I can still say its definately the best based on everything I've read. But it also costs more for a reason. If you're sure you don't like the Hurst then sell it and spend the $$$ on the MGW, assuming something like this means that much to you.
