Default Argh, tickety tackety sound

So today a new sound emerged. A tickety tackety sound that increases as my speed increases, coming from outside/below the car.

Its a perfect rotational tickety tackety, as in the sound in completely consistent with no pauses or variations.

It increases and becomes louder with speed. At 60mph, my fastest speed, it was at its loudest and fastest sound. I figured tranny is about to break apart, but when I popped the clutch and put it in neutral the sound remained, and died down as the speed decreased as I coasted in neutral. Sound gone/inaudible by 20mph and lower.

Popped shifter boot while driving to hear it better and I did hear it better, but who knows where its coming from. Im figuring my tranny is broke, but isnt the tranny just sitting still internally when in neutral?

Anyways, your best guess is appreciated.

Only if you depress the clutch and even then if the clutch isn't dragging which some do a little. Give it a try though.......

Sounds more like an exhaust leak to me...

Is it like....tick...tick...tick...tick and increase with RPM?

Yes its tick tick tick and increases with speed, not necessarily RPM. So when its loud when Im going fast it stays loud even if I put the car into neutral.

then the tickety tackety sound would be there even if he was on a traffic light

I've had some incredibly persistant rocks stuck in the tire tread before, worth a look. Hopefully it's not a nail or a screw, though I think you'd probably have noticed that by now if it was.

Not necessarily, if it is a small leak you wouldn't notice it...until you get going and more pressure builds.

Check the headers, hipe, and mufflers for leaks...make sure you check where the header connect to the block..bolts back out over time.
