Default removing old wax

What should you use to remove an old coat of wax for claying or re-waxing or applying stripes? Dawn dishwashing liquid? If so, so you use it full strength or diluted?

No! Stop right there! Automotive car wash soap will suffice, the claybar will remove the old wax(the yellow buildup as you clay it will be the old wax). If you have swirls in your paint, use some swirl remover after claying & before polishing. Besides, when you apply vinyl stripes, the wet solution for applying the stripes is a soap/alcohol solution, this will remove any wax in order to get good adhesion.
Don't use dish washing liquid of any kind. Just trying to help.

So whats the big deal on using dawn?? I've used this method for awhile and nothing bad has ever happened. Most
automotive soaps are safe from removing wax anyway,I would rather buy a $1 bottle of dawn than $5 automotive soap
for once every 3-6months use...

yes, if you want to remove wax and are going to wax the entire car I've always been told to use Dawn liquid. Don't know if it's the new red one or the blue one...

I think Dawn is fine for removing the old wax. I've used it for years whenever I was going to wax a car, with no problems whatsoever.

Another vote for Dawn dish soap. Every 6 months or so, I strip what ever is on my car with Dawn, then polish/clay, wash with Dawn again, then reapply the Zaino. The Dawn removes any trace of oil/wax on the clear coat and will not harm the clear coat in any way. I also use the Dawn mixture as the lube for claying the car to kill two birds with one stone. Once you have your favorite wax/polymer applied, then use an appropriate car wash, not Dawn[8D]

A few of the local pinstripers around here I've seen prep the car with rubbing alcohol on a rag, so I guess that works too.

Most auto wash that I have seen comes with a wax in it. But, if it is regular car wash, it is safe for wax. Won't remove it. But like you said, the clay will do it so might as well just go at it.

Actually - the reason I want to remove wax is because I am installing a Roush hood sccop. I would just use the Dawn on the area where the scoop would go? Full strenght or diluted?
