i know i may have an unpopular opinion, but i got the shaker 1000 stereo and i love it. yeah, it's $1200 or whatever, but i think it's worth it because then i get the factory warranty on my sound system too. anything goes wrong, ford will fix it/replace it.
besides, it isn't super loud, but it is the best damn stock factory stereo i have ever heard in any vehicle ever. mine NEVER skips, plays mp3 cd's, shows text of the song on radio stations (this is a hidden option you must turn on), has speed control, and LOOKS stock so no one will jack my stereo. i say it's worth it...for the benefit of the warranty and the fact that i won't have to go out, find and buy subs, find and buy an amp, wire it all up to my car, hook it up, replace speakers, blah blah blah. installation fees alone are usually $200-$300 for a quality system. not to mention add up the costs for speakers, subs, amps, and it's over a $1000 if you do it yourself. yeah you'll have better components, but it's likely to be much more noticeable to theifs, and no warranty. plus it's not stock looking...
so i say it's worth it, but it's ultimately up to the buyer. that's why it's an option. now if you get the 500, replace it, since that system is CRAP. either get the shaker 1000, or go aftermarket.

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion. I suggest you take a CD of your favorite music and listen for yourself at the dealer, and maybe go to some car stereo shops. Put your music in, with the same CD, for all of them. See what turns you on.

Well to be honest I got one with the shaker 1000 but before I did I listened to one with the shaker 500 and it totally sucked there is a big difference. And sometimes to get the better sound well lets say you could spend over $1200 to get a great sound not cheap **** either so I would go with the shaker 1000 you wont be sorry

So don't sit there and say the 500 is crap because you are only saying your 1000 is crap too.
I have YET to have a problem with my Shaker 500!

just think of it like this way the 500 is like the 4.0 (good)
and the 1000 is like the 4.6(just a little better)

shaker 1000, shaker 500 both poor quality radios..
if youre serious about the sound of your music, you'll yank either of them out in a hurry.
I had the shaker 1000 for one day...just long enough to pull it out and sell it on ebay.
I have a panasonic head dvd/mp3/tv/sat/navigation/xbox/touch screen with twin amps JL1 and 12's in trunk and replaced every speaker in the car with JL1's.
like nite vs day compared to any shaker radio

My 500 sounds great for a factory setup. I have a avic d3 and waiting on install parts to come in so I can install it. I boght it mainly for features but do expect to hear a sound improvement as well. I have a feeling I'm going to be wanting to change the factory speakers next

just get the 500 unless you must have lots of bass and you arn't going to change the HU
if your gona change the HU then maybe get the 500 if you want the door subs
if you want all the bass and arn't gona change HU the go ahead and get the 1000
I have had minimal problems with my s500 no more skipping after I went to mp3 cd's and only had the "no sound" problem twice and it went away shortly
