Default Which Radar detector should I buy?

My 05 Gt will be here Friday and before I open my wallet for Mods I would really like to get a good radar dector, in my town the cops use laser and they gave me a ticket a few months back for 40 in a 35 for God's sake so I heard about a K40 model that gets hard wired into the car that sends their display a blank reading. I looked around and saw a few different K40 models so before I dump $300-$500 on the wrong one I figured I would ask here.

Well, I've read the Best radar out there is the Valentine One? I like the Solo S2 because it's wireless. I don't have it yet, but I'm going to either get the S2, Passport 8500 X50 or the Beltronics Vector 995. Just my personal choice's.

I've had both the Valentine 1 and the Passport 8500. To me, the arrows don't do much for me, although others swear by them. I just need to know if there's radar/laser present, I can see where it's coming from with my own eyes once I'm alerted.

To me, the Valentine "falses" way too much. I don't know if there's real radar present or not since it gives so many false readings when going past any place that has automatic doors.

I love my Passport so much that the Vanetine is sitting in it's case. I used it for about 2 months before I got the Passport. If someone wants it, let me know.

Is it the newer, smaller model Valentine? If so, PM me your price. Maybe I'll give it a try.

I wouldn't buy it for that becasue i have read numerous articles testing the radar detectors and NOT ONE could "scrammble" the radar detectors signal. The radar detectors did there job of letting the driver know that there was radar but not one would scramble the signal.

Most of them aren't Jammers - including the DETECTORS on the Valentine and the Escort 8500X50.

Now the Escort can be used in conjunction with a "Jammer" - it does work to an extent. It doesn't "jam" the laser but redirects it and the Policeman receives an error signal back. Two problems though. 1) It is costly ($300-400 depending upon shop) and 2) it only works when the laser is targeted AT the device (usually the front and rear license plate holders).

I have the 8500X50 and like it very much. Not too many falses. In my city there are few lasers so it hasn't found one to detect yet - I've only had it about a month.

I'm one of those folks that swear by the arrows on the Valentine 1, and although I've read the V1 gives more false alarms than some, what really sold me is the V1 upgrade policy. I've purchased a V1 10 years ago. When the cops started using newer technology, I sent my original V1 in for the upgrade, so I got a new unit for about 2/3 the regular price. I'll be upgrading again because of the new POP radar. I no longer have a drawer full of obsolete detectors.

Two things about the POP radar...1) if your detector detects it you are more prone to K band false signals. The 8500X50 can detect it but detection of it is defaulted to off because of the proneness to false signals with that band. 2) Police agencies cannot legally ticket you with a reading from the POP Radar. They have to switch over to K, KA, or another radar band or laser to obtain the reading you will be ticketed with. So if you have POP turned off - or a detector that does not detect POP, you will still be warned as to the presence of the radar (unless of course you are the first person that gets POP'd!)
