I'd have to look at the date when I get home, but, I only read the instructions for taking the old one off. I put the new one in just like the old was in.

Mine doesnt have any vertical play either, nor does mystang04's car. We installed them the same day. Quick idea. Go to a dealer that has a Shelby GT in stock and give that cars shifter handle a go and see what differences you feel. That car has has put together and passed the acceptance standars, so they claim. See, wha, if any, differences you feel. Good luck. Or try giving Hurst a call. Im sure they have some sort of support.

I just checked mine, and I can moveit up/down a little bit. It doesn't do it while driving and if I had not gone out and pulled up on it I wouldn't ever have known. I bought mine from Brenspeed as well, and my instructions were wrong also, I've had it a couple of months.

Update: I received my new Hurst Comp Plus shifter from Brenspeed yesterday. It has the exact same problem...vertical movement of the pivot ball....AND the same stinkin' incorrect instructions dated 5/05 !!!!!!!!!!!! What am I supposed to do??? Dave at Brenspeed told me I can get a refund, but I think I'm going to contact Hurst also...or B&M (Dave said they bought out Hurst). I am very disappointed with Hurst the company. There is no excuse for selling a product over and over again with incorrect instructions and an obviously defective part.
