They are reflectors.

But they are dual hi and low beams.

Problem is they're environmentally friendly D3R mercury free bulbs, so they aren't as good as past vehicles HID's...

Idont know very much about HIDs as I have never had them...but why do they (HIDs w/ reflectors)make you cringe? Because that would blind people or not have the right cutoff?
not to hijack....but if i were to buy projector headlights from stangmods, then get the hid kit...would that work? Would it fix whatever problems HIDs with reflectors cause? I'm assuming the stock lights are reflectors

Have the HID's on my '08. I wouldn't have gotten them if I had the choice. Something like $525 option. I bought off the lot so there they are.
Actually I kind of like them. They give off a slightly bluish light and have a pretty clear cutoff. When you turn them on, they go bright for a half second or so, I guess they are charging up. I haven't yet used the brights, no need yet. Is it worth $525? I really can't say. That is a load of money for not a whole lot of extra function. And if they ever go out- I'll bet it's going to be expensive to replace. Your choice on that.

Actually, it is more than just the cost of the HID's as you must buy the security package too! But, It didn't stop me from ordering them anyway....... It'll be my first car with HID's. I'm hoping that I like them. I probably will.

As everyone else said they are bi-xenon reflectors. The cutoff is of course no where near as sharp as a decent set of projectors but is much tighter than most halogen reflectors. They put down a good amount of light on the road but I would like more focus on the shoulders of the road, the pattern is a little to dispersed.

Having gone from xenon in my '05 WRX STI then back to halogen in my '06 Charger, it was well worth $500 to get the xenons on the 'Stang.
