Default hurst short throw comin!

i'm ordering a hurst short throw for my 07 GT this friday. i have read the instructions and it looks simple enough, i'm a full time mechanic at mercedes, so i think i could figure it out. but i am curious if there are any recomended "alternative" techniques, or unexpected "hang-ups" people know of.

also, if anyone has this shifter installed, what do you think of it?? like it? love it? hate it? let me know. i cant wait to get it but i am still very interested in peoples experiences with it.
and if you have a "hate it" story, thats cool, just dont waste time trying to talk me out of getting it, i've got my mind made up and it cant be changed.

I just did mine and it was pretty straight forward. Just remove the leather boot and the rubbber boots below from inside the car. Then get underneath and remove the couple of bolts that connect. Take out the 4 bolts holding the drive shaft and let it hang down. It will make your life soooo much easier. Much faster than fighting it, trust me. Then stick the new one in and put it all back together. Nothing special.

One thing I can add, is use loctite on the 2 bolts for the shift ****, or do what I did and get a couple of nuts to use to lock in place when the threads of the bolts go through the other side. If not they will loosen and the shift lever moves.

+ 1, I have it for about a year and a half, love it. , I didn't unbolt the driveshaft when we put it in, but it was on a lift.

Absolutely do not remove the driveshaft. The Hurst shifter goes in easily if you put it in as far as you can from inside the car, and then go underneath the car to get it the rest of the way in. Easy as pie!!! Also beware of incorrect instructions. The offset goes toward the driver side, not the passenger side. I just ordered a replacement shifter for mine (from Brenspeed) because I think my pivot ball is defective (has vertical play in it). However, the shifter is awesome! You will love it. I love the look, the feel, and the performance. Check out my pics in this thread https://mustangforums.com/m_3922684/tm.htmNotice the short throw!

I had 3 people fighting with mine and it did not go in easy as pie. I'm glad yours did but I've heard of other people dropping their shaft too. only takes a minute. Good luck either way.

Yeah, I was expecting trouble too, and I did have considerable trouble until I went underneath and just pulled it in. I was surpsised it went in so easily. I guess from under there you have better control and can articulate it better.

+1 on blue loctite for the shifter allen bolts. The torque spec is 35ft/lbs I think, which is pretty damn tough with a little allen wrench. I used a combo wrench hooked onto the top of the allen for leverage and just CRANKED on the thing like I was trying to break it. Otherwise it'll come loose the within the first few miles.
