are you sure it was a GT500 and not a Shelby GT? I don't see how a mildly modded GT would beat a 500 unless there was some operator error.

It was also a very hot and humid afternoon (high 80's for temp).

RE: '07 GT beats Shelby GT500 in drag
I raced a GT500 twice at HRP in baytown, tx a few months back. I was running 13.0s that day and beat him both times. Both times he was pulling on me on the top end like i was parked but he ran outta track and i got the win. He was spinning through 1st and 2nd and wasn't really hooking up until mid-track. I spoke to the guy and he had a CAI and dyno tune. He said he had a pulley waiting for install. I told him before that, he needed suspension and some sticky tires. He was a cool guy but he kept saying he needed more power...don't understand it.

his trap speed is something to be ashamed of even if he couldnt get it to launch. he should have been coming on strong on the top end unless he was a clone. anyhow congrats. I felt the same way this weekend when I spanked a true 70 hemi cuda that was talking smack all night. he was park next to me and all I heard was how the new mustangs may look retro but werent a real muscle car. our time slips tell a different story. he ran a 12.10 to my 11.67

Nice run and killwingman considering the conditions this is not October weather. The driver mod is not to be underestimated. Was it the red one thats up there all the time. If so thats pretty consistent for him. You going to ubly next week for alt autos "here come the mustangs" day.

That poor guy, he needs to pratice more. A stock mustang would have beaten him.
It wasn't a Shelby GT. Just look at the speeds at the 1/8 and 1/4 mile marks. The GT500 went from being 3mph slower to 1mph faster.

I don't think I'll be going to Ubly but good luck up there.

I thought that might get you to take a peek. As unlikely as it sounds my '07 Mustang GT beat the Shelby GT500 at Lapeer Dragway as indicated in my time slip. I couldn't believe it either. After the race I went over and talked to the owner. He wasn't having problems with the car or anything like that, he said he just didn't know how to drive it properly. My numbers were nothing special but I was happy with my .591 reaction time. And his .951 reaction time shows me he is not exactly a newbie. I didn't even match my previous best time as indicated in my sig. It put a smile on my face though to beat a Shelby GT500.
I actually felt sorry for the guy. He asked if I had any performance mods and I told him what I had. He seemed very relieved by that. As though my car was equal to his because of that. If I was him I would feel lousy after spending the kind of cash it takes to get that car and then get beaten by a mildly modded GT.
Comments welcome but please spare me any BS comments.

I had the same thing happen to me earlier this summer, Lined up against a GT500 and beat him by 6 tenths of a second. I talked to him after and he said he was still learning how to drive the car. I asked him if he wanted to trade cars for a run and he just laughed at me.

I didn't know thatGT500s liked to cross-dress. If so I can see why the GT gave it a good beating, lol. [sm=icon_beat.gif]
