Man 'o' war 427 stroker from a 351 block = 600 horses and roughly same in torque. Complete crate engine (intake, distributor)will run you about 10 Grands. They also make a 460 ci at 650 hp.
It will spank your 4.6[8D].
Mate it with aT56 and tougher springs carb for the secondaries, so they don't come on, all the time. You gas mileage should be good for that kind of cube. Better than the big blocks from the sixties.

even if your still paying on the 6 if you want an 8 you could trade it in you'd lose a little of what you've payed in to it but it would be cheaper than converting a 6 and you wouldn't have the headaches associated with a conversion

1. i already put a pretty decent amount of $$ into the exterior
2. i am still a kid and my parents bought the car for me and pay for so i really doubt they'd be too thrilled with me turning right around and selling it for something faster, esp a v8
There are a few people doing the 4.0 to 5.4 conversions right now. Google mustang engine swap and flapjack engie swap. There are a few others as well. Got a used Triton 5.4 with 20K miles for $2600 I think.
