okay noob here with another noob question
can anyone give me a ballpark figure of what it might take to convert my 6 into an 8
(labor wise i could get most of it done for next to nothing)
i know most of you would jsut say sell it and buy a GT but i am still very much so making payments on my 6
so ignore this if its another one of my retarted posts but i was just curious
thanks

engine
transmission
Driveshaft
all the engine accessories
and alot more

even if your still paying on the 6 if you want an 8 you could trade it in you'd lose a little of what you've payed in to it but it would be cheaper than converting a 6 and you wouldn't have the headaches associated with a conversion

Ballpark: $5000. It's not just the engine, but the computer and just about the entire drive train (clutch, tranny, DS, suspension (the V8 weighs more)).

You might want to consider some of the power adders available now. A guy we hang out with has a base bone stock looking V6 - I'm talking cloth interior, no stripes of any kind, cheap wheels and all...but, it has a turbo and lays down about 430 rwhp. The only thing you might notice is the dual exhaust, but lots of V6's have them so it's not too unusual. If you know it has a turbo, you might notice the intercooler, but it's not obvious. Of course with 430rwhp, he also has a built short block, so he has quite a bit invested in it - it's the sleeper from hell! But back to the point, there are plenty of superchargerandturbo kits that will get you to a reliable 300+ at the wheels for probablyless than the cost of a full blown conversion.

If it were my money, I'd go with a supercharger or turbo.

if you're still making payments on a V-6 then you might want to reconsider. If you miss any payments, and they repo it, they'll want you to pay to restore it to original condition, won't they?
I'd suggest trading it for a used V-8 or wait until it's paid off.
Of course, if you can afford the cost of the conversion why not pay off the loan and avoid all that interest?

Alot

I don't feel like thinking through the conversion nor do I have all the info that would be needed

for example is the radiator to same or what are the differences you don't want over heating

you'd need to know fist what did ford need to change to put in a 5.4 s/c and thenif you want the ford parts or what parts would be an improvement for all the sub-systems

the major systems are what everyone thinks about but if the sub-systems can't handle/support it then its not gona last
every sub-system would need to be checked for ability to support the larger more powerful engine
fuel, ignition, cooling, computer, electrical, suspension, brakes, mounting, and others

You could always drop a carbureted 427 stroker. I'm tempted
