So I was just cruising down the road getting tailgated real bad for a mile(there is no one else on this 5!! lane road) so he finally goes to pass me so I floor it 40mph 3rd gear instantly car dies and I see Failsafe Mode displayed on the screen what happened to my baby? I haven't driven her in 3 weeks but was just doing errands for about an hour getting on it once and a whilethen kaput. The car started up about 15 minutes laterjust long enough for me to crap my pants(mad traffic out of nowhere)and have a heart attack(on an incline out of sight of the cars coming up the road).Why did it do this never had a problem before is this just a way of saying not to be ajerk on the road or is there something wrong? I drove her home took it up to 3k rpm and everything seems fine but this is why I look at this site almost everyday for the amount of knowledge you guys have. What could it be?

you dont have that perriphreal(sp) ipod hook up thing do you?

 

Sorry to hear that Mike. These computer controlled cars scare me when I hear these stories. Wish I could help. Did you read the trouble codes for info?

 

No ipod. Wingman how do I read trouble codes I have never tried car just always ran good. I haven't touched it yet waiting for more answers from the mad mustang genuises on here to chime in. Looks like a real good thing I didn't go to Ubly.

 

You need to get your tuner and plug in it and see what code it gives you ... that will tell you what the problem is.

Let me get my crystal ball....
Cant tell, you are too far away.
Pull the trouble codes for the answer.
I would check battery voltage first.
Low voltage causes all sorts of problems.
Battery OK and charging system working OK.
Then its a trip to the stealership for you.

 

pull the codes, cause its hard to diagnose a problem when you have 1000 things to choose from right now

 

Plugged the programmer in went to read dtc/data and nothing was found. Did I check the right thing? I am just going to put in the 87 tune in and drive it for a while and see how it goes.

 

based on what you described, i would
look to:

a) fuel delivery pump,filter,injectors
b) air delivery throttle bottle (need cleaning?), air intake (no leaks)

So just got back from a little ride it finally gave me codes. p0446 evap ctrl, p151a, p2106, p2135. Its driving just fine with normal driving at wot it shuts down and goes into failsafe mode almost instantly. What does all this mean?
