Default 4.10 VS 4.30

Hi everyone, just wanted to get some opinions and facts about using 4.30 gears over 4.10s. I have a 5spd, and is now my weekend driver. But mostly highway still. I know there is a mpg and top mph disadvantage compared to the 4.30, but how much less is it?

I'm doing Ford Racing gears, so gear whine is not an issue. I do plan on running my car at the track eventually so the 4.30 sound like a logical choice. Has anyone who got 4.10 wish they done 4.30 gears? And vice versa..If so why?

Thanks in advance.

Your gas milage will take a ****, but you can get up to highway speeds a lot faster!

I think 4.30s is overkill if you don't have a track only kind of car.

But thats just my opinion

Yeah the more I think about it 4.30 would be a touch too much. I do drive my car on the highway mostly, even in its 2 or 3 days out of the week. Latemodelrestoration.com has the 4.10 Ford Racing gears for $170. Plus my shop Drivetrainspecialist might price match those plus another $250 for installation.

I have 4.10's and love them. As far as mpg, you wont feel too much difference, as much does not change, only a feww 100 rpms. I dont feel it because my foot is always heavy. 4.30s will be a bit heavier on gas but still shouldnt be that bad, but for street driving might be a bit much. You might be starting in 2nd at times. 4.10, especially with a good cai & tune, will make you car jump like a mad man, but still be everyday driveable. Good luck either way and enjoy.

If youwant to beshifting every2 seconds get the 4.30's.
4.10's is a bit much as well depending on what route your going.

I dont know why people think their cars will be faster with a taller gear......i just dont get it.

Personally I have 3.55's, I wouldnt change them if it was done for free. While the guy next to me is shifting into 4th ill be halfway into 3rd passsing him gracefully.

because it DOES make you faster. it's proven over and over again. all other things being equal, a higher gear (4.30 vs. 3.55) will cause you to accelerate faster. simple physics. however, there are better ways to make your car faster (i think) such as s/c or such...

Go with 4.10's all ive heard about 4.10s is good. 4.30s would seem to get annoying in my opinion. But ifits just a weekend car then do whatever makes u happy. I have 4.10s sitting in my apartment living room waiting to be installed. Im a broke ***
