I've seen C5s run high 13s/ low 14s at the track before... it's doable, I'd get a CAI + tune, gears, and tires. You should be pretty close if not beating him by then.

If he's a friend and you are tired of him running his mouth, either tell him so or find new friends. Regardless of what they tell you on the playground, it doesn't matter if you have a faster car than your friend.

So you are tired of him running his mouth so you mod your Mustang to beat him. He gets tired of you running your mouth so he mods his Vette to beat you. You are tired of him running his mouth, so you mod your Mustang even more to beat him, etc. Next thing you know you end up like the black Mustang and red Vette I saw mangled off the road in the spring while driving to work. A bruised ego heals faster than a broken neck.

To give you a bit of an idea; my father has a 2000 vette auto convertible. I can almost hang with him until 60mph. After that, he walks away from me at a pretty good clip. Here are my mods and good luck!

I have a 01 Vette, for my GT to beat it : 100 shot NOS and 410 gears. Its still a good race. My wife love to drive the Vette and challenge me. Trust me the bottle better be warm. I haven't raced her since adding pulleys and Kooks exhaust system. Good luck with your challenge!

 

thats weird that you guys have had those problems against a STOCK c5... i have raced 2 of them, 1st one was some old guy in a vert and he only had an exhaust, i only had headers, xpipe, and catback. he pulled in the beginning and by 60 he pulled 1 car on me and then we stopped pulling and he stayed 1 car ahead til 100 then we stopped (he would have taken me after that) 2nd one i had CAI tune and the mods i listed above. pulled slowly til about 60 and then quit pulling, it was opposite of the first one. had him by a car. stopped around 110.
Maybe he was a bad driver and i was nailin the gears. But i would definatly go with CAI+tune, if u cant afford the gears + install go with an xpipe. if u have the money get the gears and/or bottle.
C5's arent ****, never seena stocker go faster then 13.7 stock (****ty drivers maybe)

I beat c5 corvettes when I had just an intake/tune. I now beat c6 corvettes. In a few months I will be beating c6 z06's...

I tried to race a c5 once, but he ran away from me. Must have heard my blower as I blew through a yellow light to catch up to him.
