Default top speeds

ok,according to the literature for the new GT,Ford have limited the top speed on it at 143mph, with the standard gearing will it actualy reach this speed with some ease or does it take a while or not get there at all? or what have you had yours up to?

I had mine up to 125 and it got there pretty quickly. I have heard there is a governer but I heard 149. Either way it will definitely get there. It is no slouch at higher speeds. I have heard with a tune they really perform well on the top.

Only been to 100mph, with mine. Got there easily, and seemed like a lot left. Only had 200 miles on it then, and under 900 miles now. Doesn't seem hard to believe 140ish.

Yep right about 145. I've been there, it doesn't take long. It's not limited by the gears. There must be a governer becuase I had another 2k rpm's till redline at 145 in 5th.

Cant remember where I read this, but it was in one of the trade rags. They said the GT does not have a top speed governor, but they said top speed is governed by aerodynamics. I think they pegged the top speed somewhere around 145-150 MPH.

i got my information from a brochure i was given by the salesman at Bartow Ford in Florida, its a 'Car and Driver' write up from November 04,it reads "and with a standard final drive ratio of 3.55:1 and a peak power of 5750rpm,the GT could clear 160mph-but Ford have slapped on a 143mph speed governor" they then go on to say they will confirm all these numbers in future examinations of both V6 and V8 models

There is both a speed limiter and rev limniter programed into the oin board (PCM) computer. But, being a "fly by wire" system, this can be overcome with a flash tuner such as the DiabloSport Predator...
