Default Stupid oil mistake...

Had to do my 18,000 mile change today, so I ran down to Advanced Auto and picked up some Mobil 1 Syn oil and a MotoCraft filter. Well I put it in and then realized that I was thinking of my other car when I grabbed the oil. I put in 5w-30 instead of 5w-20. If I remember right the second number is the high temp viscosity so I am thinking I will be fine. I live in central TN so the temps are only up in the 60's now and in the 30's at night. Should I drop out the oil, or am I fine for another 3k until my next change? thanks

ps. Tried to search, but the function isn't working too good right now.

You're fine. If you're worried, just change it out after about 5000 miles. Engines are robust, and a small change like that makes no difference.

switch it out
at operating temp the oil won't be able to reach all the little places that need oil

Too bad you can't do a "transfusion" to your other car...

Not too sure about running the 5W-30 in the Stang... I've heard different stories. Change it if you want the piece-of-mind.

might as well make this a poll

flip a coin

heads, it'll be fine
tails, better switch it out or your engine will blow

I think you will be fine. I just did an oil change on mine today, and the oil that came out was 5w-30. I used it last cause it was on sale. 5x-20 was on sale this time. I had no issues. The engine ran fine.

no I think the coin would split in two and both would be on their side and they'd roll off lol
