Racing Stripe Maintenance
I have a 2006 mustang and got 10" vinyl racing stripes on it when I bought it. Everything has been fine with them until a few weeks ago I noticed these splotches that look like hard water spots but they never come out no matter what I use. I talked to a Ford mechanic today since I was there anyway and he said that I should've had them clearcoated on. Is it too late to bother with that? am I going to have to replace them? I don't have much experience with this and I'd like them to be semi-permanent but I know that airbrushing them on would be $1200+. I can get some pics on here tomorrow but I'm hoping someone's had experience with this.

that's the thing, I have yet to find a way to get them off. I've tried automotive vinyl cleaner and plastic cleaner among other things and they sorta darken until they dry. I'm guessing it's sun damage because it's only prevalent on the top of the car and top of the trunk.

have you tried a magic eraser? I use then on my white vinyl stripes with great success. About 3 bucks at walmart in the cleaning products section. If it's sun damage, that's a different story. Might have to replace. Are you waxing/sealing your stripes when you wash/wax the rest of your car?

Wow... That looks pretty bad.
Sorry I don't know how to help you but thanks for posting this... i'll be sure to have mine clearcoated on when I get them lol.
Maybe goo-gone would work?

it could also certainly be that the person that had this car before me simply chose a cheap material for the stripes because like I said, I didn't put them on myself but they have grown on me.
