Default problem drivin the stick stang

Ok so I am only 20 years old, and been drivin sticks for five years so I aint exactly a pro but ive done it a few times. In my 89 ranger the shifting was smooth and the clutch engagement and the start from a stop was not nearly as jerky as it is in the mustang. What gives? It seems so damn hard to slip the clutch enough to start off smoothly. I usually have two noticeable jerks on acceleration. It seems like the clutch is either engaged or disengaged. There is hardly any middle ground. Why? It gets to the point where I prefer to drive my truck when my gf is with me so i dont feel like a dick trying to drive my jerky car. Anyways, anyone else have this problem or do i just not know how to drive a 300 HP car? what gives

My car has always been real smooth. Take it to the dealer and see if they can adjust it, they might act like its all your fault, but it shouldn't feel like its either engaged or disenguaged.

You're exactly right nate. They are not as smooth as any other car I have owned to include; 93 turbo mr2, 1999 cougar, and a 2000 BMW 328ci.The problem is the clutch.

thanks i was beginning to think i was losing it. I thought for sure that an 07 sports car would shift so much better than an 89 ranger but it is quite the opposite. Would an aftermarket clutch fix the problem?

With the aftermarket tune, you will probably notice it is much more predominant when the car is cold....At least I did.......It also helped mine a ton when I cleaned the throttle body.....But I can't imagine an 07 needing that....depending upon your mileage of course....

so how do i go about not jerking so much? I mean i try to slip the)(&% out of it to stay smooth and i accelerate smoothly then as my foot finally comes off the pedal ever so lightly it catches and jerks.

Really you should drive with someone that has a lot of experience. Very hard to explain w/o you here.
