Default Optima Red Top Batteri ... ?

Changed Alternator 2 times since 05? I play my music all the way up all the time and I have my lights on 90% of the time. Dose that have to do with my alternator going out twice in 50,000 miles? Should I invest into a real batteri so I don't have to pay the dealer 100$ (extended w.) every visit.

If your using that much juice the yellow top would be a better choice.

Yellow Top and better alt
First I'd check power(current) usage while you have your lights and stereo going
I think(please verify) the stock alt is 140amp so if at full load your pulling more than that a battery upgrade won't be the cure as it may have a higher output bu the alt is being pulled fully so it can't recharge the battery fully

Have you upgraded you stereo?

I have a yellowtop in the engine compartment and a redtop (in the trunk). I personally have 3 amps totalling about 220 AMPS of current draw at peak. Now 2 things,
1. If you have more than 90AMP of constant draw for your amps, plus whateveraccesories heater, lights etc.then you seriously need to look into aftermarket alternators. try www.PA-performance.com

2. A second battery is actually worse than staying with just 1 battery if you are running full volume with headlights on all the time. Reason being is you will beat your alternator to death and wear it out much faster and as such be replacing it often like it sonds like you are currently doing.

Dude.....your missing the most importnant thing in your car apparently, the blender, because you must be drinking a lot!!! WTF, I'm actually surprised that you have only replaced the alternator twice, it should have been more like every oil change.

Is this what your house looks like? Be honest now......

[sm=roll.gif] Dear gawd that was funny...

Seriously - the yellow top would be better suited. I don't have nowhere near the circuit city fire sale of devices you do but I do have quite a bit of things sucking power and I've never once had a problem with my yellow top.

Buy a bigger pump instead of a bigger bucket.
The alternator produces the amps and the battery
just stores them for start-up and key-off stereo usage.
Yellow tops by themselfs will wear out faster when used
for engine starting unlike the red top which is designed
for the heavy amp draw while starting. The yellow top
is for low amperage draw over a long period of time and
wont hold up to the demands of starting the engine.
