Got my car sideways
I was driving home and I know of a scale that semi trucks use to see their weight I guess, so I pulled up and weighed my car (3700) lbs, and I'm about to make a left onto a really big wide open street with no cars in sight so I back up turn off TCS and gun it I'm making a left and I feel my back end really kick out hard (which is what I wanted) almost do a 90 degree turn, get off the gas and straighten out. My question is how do you control something like that, I know its possible but it kind of scared me didn’t want to do it again right then and there, might go back and try again in the future. Would you feather the gas or something like that to get a controlled slide, is there any technique to it or just something you need lots of practice with?
Rule #1 BEFORE YOU DIE find an empty parking lot, practice #2 if you kick the money maker out that far slideways you better feather the gas and get her straight before you let up or shes gonna snap, lurch, bite and be verry pissed at you for doing it.
so if your moving at any kinda fwd momentum and let the tail get out to the side and let off the gas the a$$ end is going to hook up and get traction and instead of sliding youll be driving, if you counter steered at all thats the way the cars gonna go.
sinario #1 you make a rt hand turn, mash it, a$$ slides to your left, you counter steer to the left, you panic let off the gas and gain traction, the front end ( now counter steered to the left ) jumps into the on coming traffic, you just hit a. my wife b. my child c. any one elses loved one.
I know you said the road was clear so Im not slamming you, but you made it apparent that it scared you and you asked how to control it, so im just trying to help you and the next guy, at least you asked.
stay safe love your car or she'll make you cry

+1 about being on the road and doing this..
but i am guilty also..
but i only do this stuff when theres no one on the road, or whatever.. i havent gone to a parking lot yet to practice or anything.. but i have started to learn, that with the counter steering, it does bite like a bitch when you let off, and ges really rough, and if you over counter steer it could really be bad..
i think the way to controlably get out of the drift or whatever you wanna call it, is to ride it out, but kina letting the car steer itself somewaht.. (hard to explain with out being able to show you in person what im talking about) but also like you said, tap the gas as your going trhough it, depening on how much power your giving it.. but in the 7 months that ive owned this car, i feel really connected with it now, and i know what it takes to do what, and how much power it has, and so on.. kind of a good feeling..
i feel 100% in control.. which is always good when driving!.. lol
be safe and dont do this stuff on the road.. i rarely, rarely kick my back end out on a turn.. not worth hurting/killing someone, or your self, or your car.

To my last post forgot to add GUILTY AS CHARGED to the current offense, time and a place for it all tho, learning to drive in the snow makes you better that any one in south carolina, that and using your signal when changing lanes, ...........
counter-steer while in it, when you want it to end and end quickly, let off the gas completely, and it should grab real quick, and straighten her out, not too hard, its scary when you dont know how to stop it, but now that you do, enjoy, as long as its all clear
Ya I had a accident about a month ago. I lost it in the rain. My *ss end kicked right..into traffic next to me. So I hit the brake and turned wheel left...oops did a 90 degree turn in traffic and hit a bunch of hard plastic cones cemented in the center of the road and damaged my entire passenger side of my car. Lesson learned, don't brake just countersteer and hope it straightens out. Guess I need to watch more tokyo drift lol.
